UPDATE: Update: Investigators trying to sort out child’s death

A man found unresponsive inside an Inverness home where a young girl was found dead Monday night is being called a “person of interest” by investigating authorities.The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is trying to discern the circumstances surrounding the death of the girl, who was found by deputies after they entered a home in the 5000 block of Kerry Downs Road just after 9 p.m.

Deputies had responded to the house on an emergency call to treat an unresponsive person.

The man was later found in the house after Shelby County and Hoover tactical units went inside.

Shelby County Capt. Ken Burchfield said this afternoon only that the man is “a person of interest.” He remains hospitalized.

Burchfield declined to release any further information.

He said the identity of the girl was still being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Child drowns in Hoover swimming pool accident

A small boy drowned in a swimming pool at a Hoover apartment complex this afternoon, Hoover Police Capt. Jim Coker said.

Rescue workers were called to a swimming pool at The Grand at Galleria apartment complex off Lorna Road about 2:55 p.m. Bystanders performed CPR on the child, who was unconscious, Coker said. He was rushed to Children’s Hospital but never regained consciousness, Coker said.
