Marcus MasseyA 26-year-old Birmingham man has been charged with murder in the Tuesday shooting death of Josie Grimmett, according to Birmingham police.
Marcus Massey is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on $500,000 bond.
Massey also faces two attempted murder charges and a charge of shooting into an occupied vehicle in unrelated cases. Details about those cases were not immediately available tonight.
Grimmett, who was shot once at 600 Princeton Ave. S.W., was one of two people killed in a series of unrelated shootings in west Birmingham that day.
Those shootings prompted the local Southern Christian Leadership Conference to urge community leaders to condemn ”black on black” crime.
Grimmett is survived by two twin sisters and three children.
”She didn’t deserve to die on the streets like that,” her sister Tenika Grimmett said at the SCLC event. ”She didn’t live that kind of life.”
