The man, identified as Joseph Owens, was outside the West Chase Apartments complex in Austell when he was shot around 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce.
Owens ran a couple hundred yards before collapsing near a Marathon gas station. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the police spokesman said in a release.
The shooting was not near the Six Flags amusement park.
Police were searching for two black male suspects. One man armed with a handgun was described as 18 to 24 years old, 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 11 inches tall, light complexion, thin build, and with dread locks. He was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.
