Stokes, Quattlebaum, Fordham and McKnight
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -
Investigators say two men who were shooting at the driver of a car, hit and killed a 31-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle.
The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office says Kathy Mack died following a shooting in the Santee area on Thursday.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office charged 18-year-old Deshaun Jamel Fordham and 21-year-old Donte Jarod Stokes with murder and attempted murder. Jerry Jarell McKnight, 18, was charged with attempted murder. Demetric Deontre Quattlebaum, 18, was also charged in the incident with accessory before the fact to a felony.
It all started when investigators say one of the suspects saw the 37-year-old male victim, whom he had an ongoing disagreement with, cashing a check at a local store. According to investigators, as the male victim left the store, Fordham and Stokes opened fire on his vehicle in the roadway of Highway 6 near Live Oak Church striking Mack.
The male victim was able to drive away, notify law enforcement and provide a description of the suspects’ vehicle.
Authorities then saturated the area and were able to determine possible exit routes for the suspects. An investigator then spotted the suspect’s vehicle traveling towards Orangeburg on Highway 301.
