A maid’s Tuesday afternoon discovery of a man and woman shot to death in a fifth-floor room at the Hampton Inn and Suites at 4415 Southside Blvd. is an apparent murder/suicide, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.Believing the registered guests had checked out already and finding the door latched from the inside, a cleaning crew unlocked it at 12:50 p.m. and found the bodies, Sgt. Shawn Coarsey said.The pair were shot some time before dawn, Coarsey said.“There was a firearm in the room,” the sergeant said. “We have talked to guests on the same floor and no one heard anything. No one even knew it had happened.”Police think the man and woman were registered guests at the hotel, but won’t release names or their relationship until they make a positive ID.
