Investigators said Thursday they believe Ellis Ray Saggus, 42, used a black pistol to shoot an acquaintance in the chest after the two got into an argument at the restaurant, in 3000 block of Ga. 138 in Stockbridge, according to Officer Charlene Watson-Fraser.

The shooting victim, whose name was not released, was transported to a hospital, where he later died, Watson-Fraser said. Witnesses told police that Saggus left the restaurant in a red, full-sized pickup truck, believed to be a Ford F-150.

Saggus has an extensive criminal history that includes seven incarcerations at state prisons since 1996, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. His most recent release from state prison was on Nov. 15, online records show. Saggus had previously been convicted of drug, aggravated assault, theft and forgery.

Saggus, described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police. Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact Det. M. Simonds at 678-610-4785.
