Oak Hills skateboarder killed on way to school – San Bernardino County Sun

A 14-year-old Encore High School student was killed as he was skateboarding to school along Baldy Mesa Road near Highland Road and was struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning, official said.

Jarod Maxwell of Oak Hills was riding his skateboard northbound on Baldy Mesa Road when a woman driving a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse driving in the same direction as Maxwell struck the teen, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

There is a small dip in the roadway where the incident took place, according to Joaquin Zubieta, spokesman for the CHP Victorville office.

When the driver crested the top of the hill and drove into the dip, she was not able to see Maxwell striking the teen and sending him onto the pavement.

Paramedics transported the boy to Desert Valley Community Hospital where he later died.

Maxwell was not using a helmet.
