A car crashed into a Northwest Side home and ignited a fire, killing an elderly man inside and the driver.
The crash occurred a few blocks north of Ingram Park Mall in the 4200 block of Timberhill Drive about 2:30 a.m., said police spokesman Officer Matthew Porter.
John Cardenas, 88, was killed in the home. The driver hasn’t been identified.
A natural gas line in the house apparently ruptured, firefighters said.
The car was speeding when the driver apparently lost control and crashed into the house, setting the vehicle and structure ablaze, Porter said. The fire already had consumed the house and car by the time officers arrived, he said.
