2 killed as car slams into pit at California race – CNN.com

CNN — A car lost control and slammed into the pits at a racetrack in California on Saturday evening, killing two spectators, authorities said.The crash took place during warmup laps — an hour before the race — at Marysville Raceway Park, about 40 miles north of Sacramento.Spectators killed at race track”It appears the driver had a stuck throttle,” said Steven Blakesley, an announcer for sprint car races. He was at this race, however, as a spectator.”He hit the left side of an opening of the wall near the pit area, he hit two big tractor tires which sent him airborne.”The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office said one victim, a 68-year-old man, died at the scene.

Officials: Body appears to be missing kayaker in Biloxi | The Clarion-Ledger | clarionledger.com

BILOXI, MISS. — The body of a missing kayaker may have been found, 10 days after he and his father went missing.

The state Marine Patrol says it fished a man’s body from the Mississippi Sound Friday afternoon more than four miles south of Biloxi. An agency news release says the body appears to be 23-year-old Nick Rainer, missing since Feb. 27.

Man dies during California triathlon

(CNN) — A 46-year-old man from Austin, Texas, died Sunday during the swim portion of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco, according to race officials.

“We have reason to believe the gentleman suffered from a massive cardiac event as he entered the water and began the swim,” race director Bill Burke said in a statement.

“Water safety noticed him immediately and initiated CPR while he was in the water and as they transferred him to land,” he added.

Burke said he believes the man’s death marks the first in the triathlon’s 33-year history.

Oak Hills skateboarder killed on way to school – San Bernardino County Sun

A 14-year-old Encore High School student was killed as he was skateboarding to school along Baldy Mesa Road near Highland Road and was struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning, official said.

Jarod Maxwell of Oak Hills was riding his skateboard northbound on Baldy Mesa Road when a woman driving a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse driving in the same direction as Maxwell struck the teen, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

There is a small dip in the roadway where the incident took place, according to Joaquin Zubieta, spokesman for the CHP Victorville office.

When the driver crested the top of the hill and drove into the dip, she was not able to see Maxwell striking the teen and sending him onto the pavement.

Paramedics transported the boy to Desert Valley Community Hospital where he later died.

Maxwell was not using a helmet.

1 Diver is Dead Another is Hospitalized from Off Shore Mishap

An off shore diving trip turned into a fatal accident for a group of six men on a diving trip six miles out the Gulf.

The US Coast Guard from the Panama City Station was called out to the divers’ boat, which was anchored off shore. There they found two divers, one was unresponsive without a pulse. The other was in need of medical assistance.

The two men were buddy diving and sharing a regulator when they believed the equipment was malfunctioning or some kind of human error occurred.

C-P-R was administered as the Coast Guard made it back to shore where Paramedics were waiting.
