1 Diver is Dead Another is Hospitalized from Off Shore Mishap

An off shore diving trip turned into a fatal accident for a group of six men on a diving trip six miles out the Gulf.

The US Coast Guard from the Panama City Station was called out to the divers’ boat, which was anchored off shore. There they found two divers, one was unresponsive without a pulse. The other was in need of medical assistance.

The two men were buddy diving and sharing a regulator when they believed the equipment was malfunctioning or some kind of human error occurred.

C-P-R was administered as the Coast Guard made it back to shore where Paramedics were waiting.

Woman parasailing in Fla. plunges into ocean, dies | ajc.com

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission identified the woman as 28-year-old Kathleen Miskell. Conservation Commission spokeswoman Carli Segelson said Miskell’s hometown was not immediately available.

Pompano Beach spokeswoman Sandra King says Miskell was parasailing Wednesday afternoon with her husband, Stephen, when her harness broke and she fell.

King says the boat crew reeled in her husband and circled back to rescue the woman. King says the woman was in cardiac arrest and the captain performed CPR until the boat met up with paramedics. Authorities say Miskell was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Jockey dies after fall at California track – CNN.com

(CNN) — Racing will continue Friday at the northern California track where a jockey fell off his horse and later died.

Jorge Herrera, 33, died Thursday at Eden Trauma Center in Castro Valley from a head injury. He was racing in his second event of the day at the track in Pleasanton when he was thrown from his horse, Morito, which appeared to clip the heels of another horse and stumble. Herrera lurched forward and went over Morito’s head as the horse righted itself and continued.

“He was stepped on by either his horse or another horse and suffered severe head trauma,” April Mitchell, a spokeswoman for the Alameda County Fair Association, told CNN affiliate KPIX. “We deeply mourn this loss today.”

Mitchell told CNN in an e-mail that racing would begin at its usual time on Friday, with a moment of silence after the national anthem. The racetrack chaplain also will speak, she said.

The racing death is the first since jockey Mark Villa died at a New Mexico track in September 2010 and is a stark reminder of the physical toll the sport can take.

Man dies during triathlon on Jekyll Island | jacksonville.com

A participant in the swim portion of the Turtle Crawl Triathlon on Jekyll Island died this morning, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The 44-year-old man suffered an apparent cardiac arrest and was rescued from the water by event lifeguards, said Eric Garvey, spokesman for the Jekyll Island Authority.

EMTs from the Jekyll Island Fire Department met the lifeguards on the beach and began performing CPR immediately, Garvey said.

The Georgia State Patrol said the EMTs responded at 8:15 a.m.

The man was transported to Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick hospital where he was pronounced dead, Garvey said.

Sullivan South Football Player Dies

Jake Logue played as number 54 for Sullivan South.

A Sullivan South football player, Jake Logue, collapsed on the field during a play in a game against Knoxville West High School Friday night.

When Logue failed to move,  Knoxville Fire Department personnel performed CPR then attempted to revive him by using a defibrillator.

Logue was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center but was pronounced dead in the emergency room.  Medical personnel confirmed his death to us shortly before 11:00 p.m.  The reason for his collapse was not immediately known.  We’ll update information as soon as it becomes available.
