(CNN) –After a lifelong battle with mental illness, the youngest son of Pastor Rick Warren has committed suicide, his family said.

Matthew Warren, 27, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday, said Deputy Daniel Aikin, with the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

The family shared news of his death in an e-mail to church staff.

Rick Warren and his wife founded Saddleback Valley Community Church, a megachurch in Southern California.

“No words can express the anguished grief we feel right now,” the pastor wrote in the note, a copy of which was sent to CNN.

Raleigh police ID victim, suspect in Cameron Village shooting :: WRAL.com

Raleigh, N.C. — Raleigh police on Tuesday identified Kathleen Ann Bertrand, 41, of Cary, as the victim in Monday’s shooting outside a store at Cameron Village.

Police named her ex-husband, Christopher John Bertrand, 42, of Hoover, Ala., as the suspect in the shooting. He later committed suicide behind a building at 1015 Wade Ave.

The couple’s three children were in the care of family members Tuesday, police said.

Bertrand shot his ex-wife several times with a handgun around 9:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Daniels Street as she arrived to work at Pier 1 Imports, police said.

A 911 caller, who identified herself as Bertrand’s employer, said she saw Christopher Bertrand get into a car with her before hearing gunshots.

“I went to the office, and I was walking back up, and I thought she was banging on the door, but I think it was gunshots,” the distraught caller said. “When I went out there, her eyes were open and it looked like she was dead. There was lots of blood.”

Stacy Todd said she felt good seeing neighbors Robbie and Monica Griffin living together again after a split in their 18-year marriage.

Todd said the couple seemed happy as they tried to reconcile. They’d even begun exercising together, with the husband taking first-time neighborhood walks with his wife, Todd said.

But shortly after Jacksonville police cars flooded Todd’s cul-de-sac about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, she learned something very troubling still haunted 3493 Hickory Landing Court.

Police said Friday that Griffin, 43, shot his wife during an argument and then killed himself. Monica Griffin, 43, remained hospitalized Friday in critical condition.

Their son, Dylan, heard his mother yell to him, followed by what were two shots. He found the bodies and went to a neighbor’s home for help, Todd said. Police began arriving moments later in Glen Hollow, a subdivision of middle-class homes off New Berlin Road. Dylan, who Todd said was about 19 years old, was not injured.

Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty died Thursday morning after he shot himself during an argument with his ex-wife inside his Bronx apartment, sources told the Daily News.

Lighty, 44 — a longtime manager of 50 Cent, Diddy, Ja Rule and Mariah Carey — put a gun to his head and fired after a spat with his former wife, Veronica, inside the South Riverdale apartment about 11:30 a.m., police sources said.

Law enforcement sources said Lighty — who divorced his wife last year — may have been dealing with financial struggles, including owing about $5 million to the IRS.

Lighty, founder of Violator Management, merged with another talent company to form Primary Violator around the time his divorce.

Musicians began Tweeting about Lighty soon after news of his death spread.

Crime Lab rules handcuffed suspect’s shooting death suicide | Arkansas News

LITTLE ROCK — The state Crime Lab on Monday ruled the death of a handcuffed man who was shot while sitting in a Jonesboro police vehicle as a suicide.Chavis Carter, 21, died from a gunshot wound to the head on July 28, after being placed in a police cruiser following a traffic stop in Jonesboro.The state medical examiner’s office report, dated Friday, said Carter sustained a gunshot wound near his right temple. Crime Lab personnel found dense soot deposits in the area of the wound.The body also tested positive for amphetamines and marijuana, according to the report.It said the office based its finding of cause of death on “both autopsy findings and the investigative conclusions of the Jonesboro Police Department.
