A 24-year-old man has been arrested on a homicide charge after turning himself in for the stabbing death of another man early Saturday morning.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, Marquell Watkins of Bakersfield got into a fight with Steven Dwayne Carter Jr., 27, at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Fastrip store at 34th and Q streets.
Watkins stabbed Carter in the neck, and Carter was pronounced dead after he was taken to Kern Medical Center.
At about 7 a.m., detectives reached Watkins by phone. He turned himself in and was booked into the Kern County jail. Police are investigating whether the incident was possibly gang related.
