Hyosub Shin / firstname.lastname@example.org Gwinnett County police investigate the Toyota pickup truck where a man and a woman were found fatally shot on West Rock Quarry Road between Thompson Mill and Tuggle roads in Buford Saturday night.
Police identified two people found shot to death on the side of a Buford road as a north Georgia man and a south Georgia woman.
Investigators are still waiting for autopsies to be performed on Margie Gibbs, 67, of Columbus, and Jimmy Watts, 53, of Tiger — near the North Carolina border, Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said Monday.
Investigators are still trying to determine the relationship between the two, as well as find out whether anyone else was involved in the killings, police said.
Gibbs and Watts were found lying next to a maroon Toyota Tacoma at 7:15 p.m. Saturday on West Rock Quarry Road near Thompson Mill Road. A handgun was found near the truck.
A woman driving past saw the victims and called police.
“The caller advised police there were two people lying on the ground with blood on them,” Schiralli said.
Watts was pronounced dead at the scene. Gibbs was alive when she was found. She was rushed to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she died from her wounds, police said.
Gibbs’ relatives declined to comment on Monday.
