Jim Nayder, a longtime fixture on Chicago public radio and former program director at WBEZ-FM 91.5 — though best known as the host and producer of the nationally programmed “Annoying Music Show,” as well as “Magnificent Obsession,” a weekly 30-minute interview show about drug or alcohol addiction, entirely narrated by the person battling addiction — was found dead in his Roger Park apartment Friday morning.
He was 59.
The Cook County medical examiners office said his autopsy is not scheduled until Saturday morning, and that his cause of death would not be known until Saturday afternoon. However, his daughter, Blair Botti, and former wife, Laurie Nayder, said that Jim Nayder had a long history of alcoholism. “I talked to him on Tuesday and had a great conversation, and he seemed back to my old dad,” Botti said, “then I talked to him on Wednesday and he was in a bad state. Though I couldn’t count how many times I have been through this.”
