Woman intentionally hits police cruiser, dies

Fayetteville, N.C. — Investigators said a woman who died in a wreck with a Cumberland County sheriff\’s deputy late Monday intentionally hit the cruiser.

The incident began about 10:30 p.m. when a deputy went to a home in the 2400 block of Gray Goose Loop in Faytteville. The sheriff\’s office said a man at the home reported that his girlfriend tried to kill herself.

Deputy Jonathan Perkins arrived to find 42-year-old Rebecca Holmes, of Emerline Avenue in Fayetteville, getting into her vehicle and backing out of the driveway. Investigators said she crashed into the driver\’s side door of Perkins\’ cruiser, a Ford Crown Victoria.

Perkins, who was not hurt in the crash, said Holmes did not stop.
