Son dead, father hurt in Westside stabbing | News – Home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –

A man is dead and his father was critically hurt in a stabbing on the Westside early Friday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The stabbing occurred shortly after 1 a.m. in the parking lot of the West Creek II apartments. The complex is located near Ricker Road and 103rd Street.

Garrette McCoy, 22, died at UF Health Jacksonville. His father, who is in his 40s, was taken to the same hospital with life-threatening injuries.

JSO said several witnesses were taken downtown for questioning.

“I heard a lot of screaming. I was taking my trash out. It’s kind of sad. It’s sad for someone to get stabbed and lose their life,” said Michael Keffer, who lives in the complex.

Keffer said he thought kids were fighting and when he went over to see what was going on, he saw blood everywhere.
