Pratville man pleads guilty in toddler death

WETUMPKA – A Prattville man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2013 death of an Elmore County toddler.

Joey Alan Grizzell, 28, of the 100 block of Teri Lane, entered the plea Monday morning before Circuit Judge John Bush, courthouse records show. Grizzell was originally charged with murder in the Feb. 6, 2013, incident that lead to the death of 13-month-old John Keller Monson.
The state is recommending a sentence of 16 years. The length of sentence isn’t random, said District Attorney Randall Houston.
“Any sentence over 15 years, and the defendant is not eligible to receive ‘good time,” Houston said. “They wind up spending the majority of their sentence in prison. Grizzell will have to spend
