Dale County High band director killed in crash – Dothan Eagle: Local

The Dale County High School band director was killed Wednesday morning on U.S. 231 in a crash involving a car and dump truck.

Sean Claude Miller, 24, of Troy, was killed when his Mini Cooper was struck by a dump truck just north of the U.S. 231 overpass around 7:15 a.m., according to Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook.

The dump truck was headed north on 231 and the car was traveling south. Miller had turned off the highway and crossed in front of the dump truck when he was struck. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Savannah woman dies near Level Plains – Dothan Eagle: Local

A Savannah, Ga., woman died in a single-vehicle crash near Level Plains early Saturday, according to a release from the Alabama State Troopers post in Dothan.Carneisha Jan’naye Glover, 22, was killed when the 2009 Toyota she was driving left Dale County 109 one-half mile south of Level Plains about 4:45 a.m. and struck a tree.

CNN — A North Dakota woman who police say was using Facebook on her cellphone when she crashed into another car is accused of negligent homicide in the death of a great-grandmother during the May accident.Abby Sletten, 20, appeared in Traill County District Court on Wednesday to face a count of negligent homicide, court documents said.Sletten is accused of driving 85 mph on a North Dakota highway May 27 while using her cellphone when her car rear-ended an SUV.Jennifer Meyers was driving the SUV with her daughter and 89-year-old grandmother, according to an affidavit. A witness told police he saw Meyers’ brake lights and turn signal when Sletten’s Ford Escape plowed into the car on Interstate I-29.

Marietta man killed in skydiving incident in Rome | www.ajc.com

A Marietta man was killed Saturday afternoon while skydiving in Polk County, according to authorities. A second man was injured in the incident that began when the men bumped each other, according to the Polk County deputy coroner.Donald Bragg, 26, died in the incident, while a second man was injured, deputy coroner Tony L. Brazier told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Brazier did not know the identity of the injured man.Brazier said emergency officials received several frantic calls around 2 p.m. from witnesses at SkyDive the Farm in Cedartown. They told us “something had gone terribly wrong,” during a jump, Brazier said. He said something happened immediately after the men jumped, and they bumped each other, which may have knocked one man out, and caused their parachutes not to deploy properly.

A 38-year-old northwest Atlanta man died Sunday after his car collided nearly head-on with another vehicle driven by a woman who police said was drunk.The accident happened about 5 a.m. Sunday in northwest Atlanta.Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News that 38-year-old Jasper Collier was driving a 2003 Jaguar southbound on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard when a northbound car turned left into his path at Neal Street.Collier, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was seriously injured and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

‘Cops’ crew member killed in police shooting – CNN.com

CNN — A crew member working on a taping of “Cops” was inadvertently shot and killed by a police officer during a robbery in Omaha, Nebraska, local officials said Wednesday.Bryce Dion, an audio technician, is believed to be the first member of the “Cops” production staff killed in the 25-year history of the television show.The production company behind “Cops,” Langley Productions, said in a statement that it was “deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy and our main concern is helping his family in any way we can.”Dion, 38, had been in Omaha all summer, helping with the production of future “Cops” episodes. The production company described him as a “long term member of the ‘Cops’ team and a very talented and dedicated person.” His resume lists credits on “Cops” dating back to 2009.
