Dale County High band director killed in crash – Dothan Eagle: Local

The Dale County High School band director was killed Wednesday morning on U.S. 231 in a crash involving a car and dump truck.

Sean Claude Miller, 24, of Troy, was killed when his Mini Cooper was struck by a dump truck just north of the U.S. 231 overpass around 7:15 a.m., according to Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook.

The dump truck was headed north on 231 and the car was traveling south. Miller had turned off the highway and crossed in front of the dump truck when he was struck. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

A single-vehicle crash Sunday in Pike County claimed the life of a Troy man and injured another.According to a statement from Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook, the crash happened the driver of a 2005 Lincoln LS, 33-year-old, Demetric Upshaw ran off the road and struck a tree.

Savannah woman dies near Level Plains – Dothan Eagle: Local

A Savannah, Ga., woman died in a single-vehicle crash near Level Plains early Saturday, according to a release from the Alabama State Troopers post in Dothan.Carneisha Jan’naye Glover, 22, was killed when the 2009 Toyota she was driving left Dale County 109 one-half mile south of Level Plains about 4:45 a.m. and struck a tree.

A 38-year-old northwest Atlanta man died Sunday after his car collided nearly head-on with another vehicle driven by a woman who police said was drunk.The accident happened about 5 a.m. Sunday in northwest Atlanta.Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News that 38-year-old Jasper Collier was driving a 2003 Jaguar southbound on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard when a northbound car turned left into his path at Neal Street.Collier, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was seriously injured and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Daughter of longtime news anchor dies in traffic accident – DothanFirst

The daughter of a longtime Dothan television news anchor was killed this week in a Panama City traffic accident. Florida state troopers say Tawny LeAnne Williams Carlisle, 44, died a short time after the car she was driving was struck Monday by a pickup truck on Panama City Parkway, also known as Back Beach Road. Carlisle was the daughter of John Williams who served many years as WTVY’s main news anchor. Williams died in 2011. A memorial service will be held 6 pm Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Holiday Golf Club in Panama City, FL. Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, August 29, 2014 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan with Rev. Jeff Thomas and Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am prior to the service at the funeral home.

A jury on Friday sentenced former Grand Prairie teacher Tammy Loweto 10 years in prison for manslaughter and eight years for failure to stop and render aid in the January 2013 hit-and-run death of 6-year-old John Raidy.The sentences will be served concurrently, and neither is probated.The jury earlier in the week convicted Lowe on the manslaughter charge, which carried a maximum sentence of 20 years. She pleaded guilty before trial to failure to stop and render aid, which carried a maximum 10-year sentence.It was not immediately reported whether Lowe would be eligible for parole.
