4 people die in NC wreck


SYLVA, N.C. (AP) — The Highway Patrol says four people have been killed in a head-on collission in western North Carolina.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported the wreck happened about 6:30 p.m. Monday on U.S. 441 about nine miles north of Sylva. Troopers said a car traveling north crossed the center lane and struck a vehicle heading south.

The patrol’s report said the crash killed four people in the southbound vehicle. They were the driver, 68-year-old Thomas Jaros of Cheokee; 55-year-old Kathryn Caldwell of Birmingham, Ala.; Tom Caldwell of Birmingham; and 62-year-old Garry Ely of Rose Hill, Va.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was hurt. The person’s name was not released.
